Fuerte San Francisco is a football club based in San Francisco Gotera, El Salvador that plays in the Primera División, the top flight of Salvadoran football. Nicknamed Los Comandos Azules (The blue commanders), the club has won two league second division titles, Seven third divisions titles and one promotional titles.
History
In 1991, Fuerte San Francisco obtained promotion to the Primera División de Fútbol Profesional for the first and so far only time and managed to stay there for three years. The club was relegated from the Primera División de Fútbol de El Salvador after 1992/1993 season. In 2009 they were relegated to the Third Division. However, after winning both the Apertura 2014 and Clausura 2015 title Fuerte San Francisco were promoted to the Segunda Division for 2015–2016 seasons.
The team remained in the second tier until the 2022-23 season, when they secured their first promotion to the Primera Division in 30 years after defeatingTitan in the promotion play-offs.
O clube foi fundado em 1962 e seu primeiro nome foi Club Deportivo Fuerte San Francisco. Em 1996, mudou seu nome para Club Deportivo Atlético Fuerte San Francisco e, em 2008, adotou o nome atual.
O Fuerte San Francisco manda seus jogos no Estádio Juan Francisco Barraza, com capacidade para 10.000 espectadores.
O clube nunca conquistou um título nacional, mas foi vice-campeão da segunda divisão em duas ocasiões, em 1986 e 1990.
O Fuerte San Francisco é um dos clubes mais populares de El Salvador e tem uma grande torcida. O clube é conhecido por sua paixão pelo futebol e por sua forte rivalidade com o Club Deportivo Águila, da cidade vizinha de San Miguel.
