Ashfield Sports Club is an Australian semi-professional football club based in the suburb of Ashfield, Perth, Western Australia, and founded in 1970. The club will compete in 2022 in the Football West State League Division 2.
History
Formed in 1970 the club was first named Ashfield Dynamo after its location in an industrial area. A dynamo is a machine that produces energy, so was a fitting name for the newly founded, "energetic" club. It competed in the Semi Professional League Division 2 in 1976. Following the Australian Soccer Federation decision to ban all ethnic names at all levels of competition, the club was renamed Ashfield Soccer and Sports Club. The fact that "Dynamo" was not ethnically linked in any way, seemed to be forgotten by the governing body at the time. In 1996 a partnership with Bunbury Tricolore, saw the name changed to Ashfield-Bunbury and the club won its first title in 1998. In 2001 Bunbury Soccer Club decided to strike out on their own (as South West Phoenix FC) and the name changed back to Ashfield Soccer and Sports Club. This did not deter the club, as they won their second title in the same year. 2010 saw the name shortened to Ashfield Sports Club.
O clube foi fundado em 1959 por um grupo de imigrantes italianos que viviam na área de Ashfield. Nos seus primeiros anos, o clube jogou nas ligas do distrito local, antes de se juntar à NSW State League em 1970. O Ashfield FC ganhou o campeonato estadual em 1974 e 1975, e foi promovido à National Soccer League em 1977.
O Ashfield FC disputou a National Soccer League por 10 temporadas, com seu maior sucesso sendo o vice-campeonato em 1985. O clube também foi vice-campeão da NSL Cup em 1977 e 1985.
O Ashfield FC foi rebaixado da National Soccer League em 1986, e passou a disputar a NSW State League nos anos seguintes. O clube ganhou o campeonato estadual novamente em 1992 e 1995, e se classificou para a NSL em 1997.
O Ashfield FC permaneceu na NSL por apenas uma temporada, sendo rebaixado novamente em 1998. O clube passou a disputar a NSW Premier League nos anos seguintes, ganhando o campeonato em 2002 e 2006.
O Ashfield FC se juntou à National Premier Leagues NSW em 2013, e tem disputado a liga desde então. O clube terminou em terceiro lugar na temporada 2015, e se classificou para a final da NPL NSW Finals Series, onde perdeu para o Blacktown City FC.
O Ashfield FC é um dos clubes de futebol mais antigos e bem-sucedidos de Sydney. O clube tem uma forte base de fãs e é conhecido por seu estilo de jogo apaixonado e ofensivo.
