Pasig City MCW Sports was a Filipino professional basketball team based in Pasig. The team last competed in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) and played their home games at both Pasig Sports Center and Ynares Sports Arena.
The team's first incarnation was established in 1998 with the Pasig Blue Pirates of the Metropolitan Basketball Association (MBA), which ran until 2000. The Pirates would later be revived with an MPBL expansion team for the 2018–19 season. Since the 2022 MPBL playoffs, the team has been sponsored by MCW Sports, an online sports news portal in the Philippines.
The Pasig-based franchise also took part in FilBasket and in the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3.
History
First incarnation (1998–2000)
Pasig's basketball franchise was established in 1998 with the Pasig Blue Pirates of the Metropolitan Basketball Association. In 1999, the team was renamed as the Pasig-Rizal Pirates and would remain in the league until 2000.
Second incarnation (2018–present)
The Pasig Pirates were revived in 2018, when they became one of sixteen teams that were part of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League's national expansion for its 2018–19 season. The Mark Andaya-led Pirates finished with a league-worst 4–21 record.
In the 2019–20 season, Sta. Lucia Land became the title sponsors of the Pasig franchise, becoming the Pasig Sta. Lucia Realtors, reviving the Realtors moniker used in the Philippine Basketball Association and Pilipinas Commercial Basketball League.
O Pasig Pirates foi fundado em 1998 por um grupo de empresários liderado por Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala. O time foi um dos oito times originais a competir na temporada inaugural da MBA. O Pirates rapidamente se tornou um dos times mais populares da liga, devido à sua forte presença nas redes sociais e ao seu estilo de jogo empolgante.
O Pirates ganhou seu primeiro campeonato da MBA na temporada de 2000, derrotando o Tanduay Rhum Masters na final. O time venceu mais dois campeonatos da MBA em 2002 e 2003, antes da liga fechar as portas em 2008.
Em 2011, o Pasig Pirates se juntou à PBL. O time ainda não ganhou um campeonato da PBL, mas chegou às semifinais em diversas ocasiões. O Pirates é um dos times mais populares da PBL, e seus jogos são sempre bem disputados.
O Pasig Pirates joga suas partidas em casa no Pasig Sports Complex. O ginásio tem capacidade para 5.000 pessoas. O time tem uma grande torcida, que é conhecida como "The Pirates Crew".
O Pasig Pirates é um dos times de basquetebol mais bem-sucedidos das Filipinas. O time ganhou três campeonatos da MBA e chegou às semifinais da PBL em diversas ocasiões. O Pirates é um time popular entre os fãs de basquetebol filipinos, e seus jogos são sempre bem disputados.
